Christopher and I seized the opportunity to visit Mount
Rushmore. We arrived at the memorial around 7pm (it is open from the crack of
dawn to about 11pm) and hiked the presidential trail.
We explored the museum and snapped way too many pictures.
Christopher and I also stayed for the lighting ceremony
which was incredibly patriotic and rather touching. It was Memorial Day weekend
so the head of the ceremony decided to do a flag ceremony in order to honor all
the veterans in the audience.
My one word of warning to visitors is that parking is $11. The parking permit also helps you to gain access to many of the other parks in the area however, so it is worth paying if you will thoroughly be exploring the Black Hills Mount Rushmore was definitely a treat to visit and I am glad we got to stop by.
